KAPPA LEAGUE CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT

supplies to needy families at Minnie’s Food Pantry; Achievement Scholar- ships for high achieving 12 th graders; Kappa League Senior College Prep Program where Kappa Leaguers in the 12 th grade go through a special program preparing them for college. The topics covered are study skills, time manage- ment, applying to colleges, how to apply for scholarships, waking yourself up in the morning, how to prepare a meal, de- termining a major and preparing meals; and the College Success program that mentors Kappa Leaguers through college graduation. The Frisco Guide Right program in partnership with Microsoft, was cre- ated to address the STEM and leader- ship mentoring needs of Middle School and High School students. Students participate in developing mobile apps, programming, and web design. This program is one of the first Guide Right

NSBE Jr. Chapter. Kappa League mentors young men from grades 7 through 12 participate. The program has focused on teaching study skills, career exploration, criti- cal thinking skills, leadership training, group dynamics, goal setting, business dynamics, current event awareness and public speaking. Each meeting all the aforementioned areas are covered. The meetings are focused on brief overviews with thought provoking questions and lots of interaction and participation from the Kappa Leaguers. One of the unique program RPA has administered for the past twenty years is the Kappa Basketball Kamp. It has been called the “Best Kamp Ever”! Parents often comment that the Kamp is better than B-ball camps that they pay upwards of $400 to attend. The Participant’s skill levels run from novice to D-1 prospects. The Kamp is focused on fundamentals

and skills development. The Kamp was the brainchild of Brothers Burnett, Darryl Winston, Patrick Miller (now Chapter Invisible) and Thomas Garnett (Lawrenceville Duluth (GA) Alumni). They all share a Beta Psi Chapter (Kan- sas State University) connection. High school Kappa Leaguers also assist as coaches. RPA provides unswerving support to the Guide Right program. Funding for the programs comes from donations, Brothers’ corporate matching funds and working Texas Stadium and now AT&T Stadium games. “I will always appreci- ate the way RPA makes Guide Right a significant part of the Chapter agenda, Brothers come out to participate in numbers, donating thousands of hours each year,” stated Brother Burnett.
