Semaine des femmes d’affaires Business Women’s Week
Women with business in their blood October 20 to 26, 2014, is National Business Women’s Week. Who are the women running companies and small enterprises? What drives them and makes them successful? Common traits Some women seem to have it in their blood; it is as though they were born to be businesspeople. Generally, these women are go-getters. They are driven and they love taking charge. Without trying to stub- bornly impose their point of view, they enjoy the art of persuasive ar- gument and getting others to share in their vision of the world. These women are driven by their self-confidence and their belief in their skills. Chief motivations Women who choose to go into business appear to share a number of common motives. Firstly, they share a desire to reach their potential without constraints and to let their creativity run free. Business women often choose to go out on their own because of their frustrations with the limitations of the business world or typical work environments. Secondly, time management is another common motivation. Manag- ing your own schedule allows you to invest your energy in the right places and at the right times. Being financially independent also fuels women to create their own businesses. Being business owners means being able to reap every dollar generated by their determined efforts. To be a business woman — a good business woman — involves con- viction. Yes, you need to have business in your blood, but above all, you need to truly believe in your skills and in your business.
Femmes d’affaires et de conciliation En 2014, la Semaine des femmes d’affaires se déroule du 20 au 26 octobre. L’occasion est idéale pour parler de ces femmes qui doivent apprendre à concilier une carrière exi- geante et une vie de famille épanouie. La conciliation travail-famille est l’un des principaux avan- tages des femmes qui se lancent en affaires. En effet, devenir sa propre patronne permet d’être maîtresse de son emploi du temps et de travailler au bureau ou à la maison selon les besoins familiaux. Il faut quitter le bureau pour aller cher- cher son enfant malade à la garderie? Pas de problème, on n’a de compte à rendre à personne. Or, il faudra probable- ment travailler en soirée ou le week-end suivant, car avoir le contrôle sur son horaire ne réduit pas la charge de travail.
Il faut donc savoir planifier à la fois les dossiers à gérer au bureau et les tâches à accomplir à la maison pour relever le défi de la conciliation. Être bien organisée est essentiel pour éviter de s’essouffler. Par exemple, préparer à l’avance tous les soupers de la se- maine permet d’éviter de courir au retour du travail et de passer du temps de qualité en famille. Pouvoir compter sur son entourage est aussi important : si un membre de la famille s’occupe des rendez-vous chez le médecin, on évite d’accumuler du retard en multipliant les départs improvisés et on arrive à tenir sa promesse d’être toujours là au souper. Avec passion, les femmes d’affaires gèrent leur carrière en sachant que le temps qu’elles consacrent à l’entreprise assure la qualité de vie de leur famille.
