I N o u r pr e v io u s message we were looking at Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39 where we saw the picture of God’s judgment as it would be meted out to Russia and the communist hordes. We want now, especially, to examine Ezekiel 38:13 as in certain nations of the world resentment mounts against Russia and her allies in their coming invasion of Palestine. Read verse 13 very carefully from the standpoint of study and you will note that the only war these nations will seem to wage is a war of words. The reference to Tarshish in this 13th verse suggests it to be a nation of trad ers having fleets of ships — that is why we have the word “merchants.” It occurs about twenty times in the Scriptures, bringing out many things of interest current to that era. For instance, the Jews spoke of Tarshish as the most distant land farthest west of Palestine. In those days the western hemisphere was unknown which nar rows the meaning down, perhaps, to signify England or the British Isles. From the Scriptures we learn that Tar
shish was a maritime nation — and what was Great Britain’s slogan? “Bri- tania rules the waves.” In addition, Tarshish was identified as an island na tion. The Bible speaks of the isles be yond the sea — this would mean those beyond the Mediterranean Sea. Tar shish is described as a nation with many colonies which Ezekiel calls the “young lions.” Britain has had many young li ons the chiefest of which were Ca nada, Australia, and India. England will be a part of the revived Roman Empire which will be made up of ten kingdoms represented by the ten toes of the image of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. And, like man’s ten toes, would not be of equal strength. The anti- Ohrist, the human ruler, will be the Head of this government as we see it in prophecy. As we consider the downfall of Com munism in its effort to overtake Pales tine, what kind of a warfare will it be? Russia will come down with her 18,- 000,000 men in the last days (this pic ture is given in Daniel 13). Then in Ezekiel 38:18-23, we have the unfolding 30
