studies, knowing from very early on that she enjoyed it and wanted to study it more. Alyssa decided during her undergraduate studies that she was going to go to law school, which led to her working for a large law firm in Toronto where she practised labour employment and human rights law. She felt that her passion didn’t lie there, though, which led her to taking another large risk: quitting her job in the pandemic, selling everything and moving to the Netherlands. She was especially drawn to The Hague, which is the international city of peace and justice. She wanted to work in an international legal sphere with amazing academics and legal minds, and she found that in the Netherlands. Alyssa LeBlanc only spent one year at Albert College, but she encouraged herself to grab everything she could out of the experience and make her time count. Coming from a public high school where she felt she was not being challenged enough, Alyssa felt Albert College was the perfect fit for her. Her Albert experience was different from her previous school because school life encompasses everything. She took advantage of the 5 ‘A’s of Albert College and tried to fully immerse herself in the school experience. She was rewarded for this with many awards and accolades such as most improved player in both basketball and volleyball, the Governor General’s Award for highest academic average in the graduating class, the History Award, and Valedictorian for the 2009 graduating class. The History Award was especially important to her as she pursued history in her undergraduate

the issues of sexual exploitation and abuse. Through this she has had the opportunity to work with people from around the world, and she has used the skills she obtained from Albert College to do so. According to Alyssa, the international setting of Albert College prepared her for the global nature of working for the WHO. She is grateful for the soft skills Albert College taught her, helping her work with colleagues from Europe and Africa. At Albert she was exposed to different cultures, languages and mindsets, which ties well into her current work. In the 14 years since she graduated, Alyssa has worked hard and taken risks to advance her career. Alyssa says that she is “proud to work for an organization that has such a huge impact on almost every human on this planet.” She is honoured to work for the WHO and is appreciative of all the lessons and skills she learned at Albert College that have helped her along the way.
