The Use of Candles in Christian Fellowship B y W IL L IA M H . L E A C H The problem of finding suitable program material for candle-lighting services is a very real one to those who, though desiring to use candles on special occasions in Protestant churches, wish to avoid a tendency . to form al ritualism. There is the necessity for an evangelical Scriptural note that will give spiritual power and life to a group’s aesthetic enjoyment of a dignified candle lighting ceremony. In this present volume a beginning is made. In some of these services, however, the wording chosen seems inadequate to a clear presentation of the basis of the gospel. Nevertheless, there are many practical sug gestions which would be readily adaptable to a fuller message that might be prepared by a group of Christian workers. The sug gested use of candles in a memorial service as a means of bringing money gifts to the church would seem o f doubtful value if the emphasis is carelessly placed. The service for a church or home observation of a golden wedding anniversary is very good. 46 pages. Goodenough and W oglom Co. Art,, board; binding, in gift box. Price $1.00.
