ANCC Senior Club Championship

Handicap Posting Information & More

The 2019 ANCC Senior Club Championship is the tournament that matches your golf skills one-on-one with each of your fellow competitors. This championship will include both a Men’s and Women’s Division for the championship ONLY (Senior Flighted Match Play Tournament will begin in June). For complete details and to enter, click here.

As the 2019 golf season gets underway, the Handicap Committee reminds all players that in order to maintain the integrity of our handicap system, they should post every round played, except when playing alone (new beginning January 2016). Scores should be posted for any format, even when you pick up without holing out or when you skip holes. This includes playing less than a full 9 or 18 holes. If a player does not hole out, he should assign himself the score for that hole that he would have most likely have achieved, or, if he skips a hole, his handicapped score for that hole. Guidelines that detail how to post rounds are posted in the golf section of the website. We also remind players that the Handicap Committee monitors the handicap system and has imposed handicap penalties when players fail to post regular play and/or tournament scores.

Spring Member - Member

The 2019 Spring Member – Member will be held on Saturday, 4 May at Fairfax. Find a partner and enjoy this two-person team, Ryder Cup style format. For complete tournament information and to enter, click here.

For additional handicap information and the requirements for maintaining a handicap at ANCC, click here.

Are Your Clubs Ready for Golf Season?

Flighted Match Play Tournament

When was the last time you had your clubs re-gripped? Eighteen months is the absolute maximum you should wait to change your grips because slick or worn grips can have a negative impact on your game. Maintaining proper grip pressure is essential in making a smooth swing, but worn grips require tighter grip pressure which inhibits the swing and can be especially slippery in wet conditions. Degradation is gradual, so you may not even realize how worn they’ve gotten. Stop by either Golf Shop for more information or to have one of the Golf Professionals take a look at your grips.

The 2019 Flighted Match Play Tournament is an individual match play event. All eligible players will be placed in flights of 8 based on their June 1, 2019 handicap index. All flights will play off the low handicap of the pairing. There will be a men’s and women’s division. For complete tournament details and to sign-up beginning Wednesday, 1 May, click here.

Golf Course Reminders

As spring slowing creeps out of that long cold winter the golf season is getting into full swing. As the season gets started, our golf staff asked to remind everyone of a few things: • The no mow areas on the golf course are by design. Some are marked as penalty areas and should be played as penalty areas according to the Rules of Golf. If a no mow area is not marked as a penalty area, then any ball that enters an unmarked no mow area and is not found is a Lost Ball. While playing your round, if you stroke a ball into the no mow areas, please play a Provisional Ball to help with the pace of play. • Though the grass in the no mow areas is shorter during the spring, it is not intended for golf cart traffic. You may enter no mow areas in search of a ball, but please DO NOT drive golf carts into these areas. • Please observe the golf cart rules for the day. Every effort will be made to maintain the 90º cart rule as often as possible. However, when carts are restricted to paths, please keep all wheels on the paths. • The fairways at ARL are Patriot Bermuda grass. When taking a divot, please fill the divot with sand. There is no need to replace the divot as it will die. The grass will fill-in within a few days. • Please be sure to repair your ball marks on the green as a couple others at the same time. A properly repaired ball mark will keep our greens looking spectacular all season.

All registration for spring programs will be conducted through the Club’s website. Contact Greg Paukstis, Director of Junior Tennis, if you have any questions or need assistance placing/registering your child. Parents, please be advised that children wearing non-tennis specific shoes will not be able to participate.

The ANCC Ladies Open Tennis tradition is over 50 years old. We are a group of women who love to play tennis and we play twice weekly during the indoor season, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 to 2:30 PM. Our sessions are fun, a little competitive, and stress-free. Our group provides the maximum freedom in balancing life on and off the court. If a player is unable to play due to vacation, work or another commitment, she does not have to find a substitute. Our group offers the flexibility of playing with less than four players and more than four players, so if you show up you will always play. For more information, please contact the Tennis Pro Shop.
