Scotland’s Great Tapestry & Grand Designs A firm favourite, our revamped tour of the historic city of Edinburgh and the beautiful Scottish Borders features excursions to magnificent Abbotsford House, mysterious Rosslyn Chapel and colourful Dawyck Botanic Garden. We also admire the inspirational Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Edinburgh Castle & Scotch Whisky Experience We spend today in Edinburgh, starting with a visit to the magnificent Edinburgh Castle , perched atop an extinct volcano. We then take a short stroll to The Scotch Whisky Experience , where we enjoy a guided tour, nosing and tasting . We spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying free time on the famous Royal Mile at the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, named after its use as a processional route for royalty. Running between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, we can visit the various shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions before returning to our hotel. Day 3 Rosslyn Chapel & Dawyck Botanic Garden This morning we visit one of the most remarkable and famous buildings in Scotland, Rosslyn Chapel where guides give regular, free talks throughout the day. In the afternoon, we visit the highly regarded Dawyck Botanic Garden , home to one of Scotland’s finest tree collections including some of Britain’s oldest and tallest trees. Day 4 Great Tapestry of Scotland & Abbotsford This morning we head to Galashiels to see the Great Tapestry of Scotland , which is housed in a visitor centre with a café. Created and handstitched by 1,000 people from across Scotland, each of the Great Tapestry of Scotland’s 160 panels tells a compelling account of Scotland’s history and culture. In the afternoon we visit Abbotsford , the magnificent former home of Sir Walter Scott, and explore the house and gardens at leisure. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
