Tobermory, Isle of Mull

Mull it Over in Oban Known as the Gateway to the Isles, we make the most of our Oban base with a visit to the nearby Isle of Mull, where we explore the magnificent Duart Castle. We also visit the impressive Inveraray Castle and spend some time in Oban itself. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Isle of Mull This morning, we take the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry to the charming Isle of Mull, the second largest island of the Inner Hebrides. Here, we visit Duart Castle , the seat of Clan Maclean. Located on a high crag at the end of a peninsula, jutting into the Sound of Mull, we explore the imposing Castle and grounds, including the magnificent Great Hall, State Bedroom and Dressing Rooms, and learn more about the Clan in the Exhibition area. In the afternoon, we have time at leisure in Tobermory, built as a fishing port in the late 18th century and now the main town on Mull, before heading back to the mainland via ferry. Your day trip to the Isle of Mull can be tailored to your choice – Duart Castle closes in mid-October so perhaps you would rather visit Iona and the Abbey instead? Speak to the sales team for info. Day 3 Oban Driver’s Day Off We stay put in Oban today, the unofficial capital of the West Highlands, acclaimed as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’. We spend the day at leisure exploring the town’s attractions, such as McCaig’s Tower & Battery Hill, Oban Distillery and the Oban War & Peace Museum. We can also browse the various shops, perhaps paying a visit to the popular, family-owned Oban Chocolate Company to sample its fresh Today we journey to the ancestral seat of the Chief of Clan Campbell, Inveraray Castle & Gardens , where we enjoy a guided tour around one of Scotland’s finest stately homes. There’s plenty to see over the three floors, including the Clan Room, which offers an insight into the fascinating history of Clan Campbell; the French-influenced Tapestry Drawing Room with original Beauvais tapestries; and the Victorian Room, which serves as a tribute to the marriage between HRH Princess Louise – daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert – and the Marquess of Lorne. After, we enjoy a scenic journey back to Oban, driving south along Loch Fyne via Lochgilphead. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. handmade chocolates. Day 4 Inveraray Castle
