MEET OSCAR, OUTDOOR ADVENTURES’ DOG OF THE YEAR!
We’re excited to introduce Oscar, a three-legged rescue dog and Poodle–Lhasa Apso mix who has been voted our Outdoor Adventures’ 2025 Dog of the Year! This special honor is given in celebration of our member’s beloved adventure companions.
Oscar’s journey is one of resilience— after a likely car accident left his shoulder shattered, his front leg had to
be removed, but he’s adapted with remarkable strength and spirit. Winter is his favorite season, as the cooler weather makes it easier for him to get around and enjoy the outdoors. Full of personality, Oscar spends his days chasing rabbits (his ultimate nemesis), squirrels, and even geese, and his evenings unwinding with a bone and his expected nightly massage—always stopping to greet people and getting excited at the sound of children playing. Beyond his playful energy, Oscar has a gentle, intuitive side. He shows strong promise as a therapy dog, calmly visiting a church service for adults with cognitive and physical impairments, where he’s at ease around walkers and wheelchairs, often sitting beside those who need comfort. Oscar is also part of a cherished family tradition at Lake Shore Resort, where winters are spent skating, skiing, and playing hockey on the lake, and summers bring swimming and time at the clubhouse—memories now shared with a growing group of grandchildren and Oscar by their side.
