The word photosynthesis can be separated to make two smaller words: “photo” which means light “synthesis” which means putting together Plants need food but they do not have to wait on people or animals to provide for them. The more red in the leaf, the more sugar that leaf is storing. That is why Maple trees are so vibrant. Evergreens dont change because their leaves have a thick wax covering that protects the chlorophyl (green) in the leaves. Fall colors are caused by the amount of sugar in leaves.
