OPERATING DEPARTMENT PRACTITIONER SINGLETON PARK CAMPUS

Our Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) course will give you the skills and experience to launch a rewarding career in this essential profession. ODPs provide skilled care and support to patients at all stages of an operation, from anaesthetics, throughout surgery and into recovery. They play a critical role in the hospital’s ability to carry out surgery. It is a varied role, encompassing patient care, teamwork and attention to detail.

Operating Department Practitioners provide holistic care for a diverse range of patient groups, both within and beyond the operating theatre. Throughout this integrated course, you will learn how to deliver patient-centred perioperative (before, during and after surgery) care to patients as well as how to manage people and resources within the surgical environment. Our academic staff are qualified nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, providing an exceptional combination of theoretical rigour, professional insight, and practical expertise. Our excellent facilities include a realistic clinical suite so you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice in an environment that reflects as closely as possible the actual conditions that you will experience when you go on placement in a hospital or community setting. We have excellent working relationships with many healthcare providers, so you will have access to a wide range of clinical experiences across South West Wales. These include hospital placements in the NHS and independent sector.

FUTURE CAREERS: Successful completion of the course will allow you to apply for registration with the Heath and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and gain employment as an Operating Department Practitioner.
