Information Retention
Suggested Strategy: Use a Peer-to-Peer Coaching strategy to help reinforce the information you would like to coach the employee to retain. Begin by bringing awareness to the individual’s ability to retain information and apply what they have learned, using a Rating Question.
Suggested Questions:
Î Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing a complete ability to retain and apply what you learn and one representing that you have no ability to do so, where would you rate yourself and why? Î Self-Actualized Question: What actions do you think we can take together to help you become closer to a six? Î Success Imperative: How do you think these actions will help you reach ultimate success in your position and in your career?
Suggested Activities:
Î Define & Coach: Discuss the employee’s version of the definition of complete information retention and discuss what that definition means as it relates to their job position. Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down this person’s current strategy for retaining and applying information learned and how effective they feel that strategy is for them. On the right side of the board, write down the definition from the Define & Coach activity. Then, erase the left side of the board and brainstorm a list together of actions that the employee must take in order to reach that definition on the right side of the board.
