OCTOBER 2021
AFTER 43 YEARS, I BECAME A COFFEE DRINKER THE COFFEE SPECIAL EDITION
Have you experienced acquired tastes as you get older? For plenty of people, strong beverages like wine or coffee aren’t always love at first sight — but they do present an opportunity for socializing when shared. There’s nothing quite like sharing a bottle of wine or pot of coffee with a close friend. In honor of International Coffee Day on Oct. 1, I thought I’d share how I got my taste for coffee because, I’ll admit, it took me a little while.
I usually start the day with a cup of Texas Pecan coffee. Pecans are the state tree of Texas, and, as a Texan, loving this coffee is arguably in my blood. Not only does it have a bit of roasted pecan flavor, but it also has pieces of pecan that are brewed with your coffee beans. It gives the coffee a very enjoyable, smooth flavor. After my home-brewed Texas Pecan cup of coffee, I’ll drive to a local coffeehouse before work and get a decaf latte. It may not seem like a necessary thing to do, but it’s a very comforting part of my morning routine that I always look forward to. I might regularly drink Texas Pecan coffee, but I’ve never had a cup of coffee from around the world that I didn’t like, and we’ve also made it a point to visit coffee plantations on some trips. While in Hawaii, we visited a coffee plantation on the island of Kauai, and we did the same while visiting Costa Rica. There’s a beauty to the enormous, symmetrical rows of coffee plants, carefully measured and planted, especially in Costa Rica against the mountainside.
“I usually start the day with a cup of Texas Pecan coffee. Pecans are the state tree of Texas, and, as a Texan, loving this coffee is arguably in my blood.”
For 43 years of my life, I didn’t drink coffee. It was always shocking and unpleasant upon first sip for me. You could say it wasn’t my cup of tea, although tea wasn’t a hit for me, either. However, while tea hasn’t won me over, a past girlfriend showed me that coffee wasn’t best enjoyed black for me. A little bit of cream (no sugar for me) goes a long way in creating a smoother flavor. After that, it didn’t take long for coffee to become part of my morning ritual. In fact, I used to drink an extraordinary amount of coffee in the mornings — maybe four to five cups. It turns out that caffeine isn’t the healthiest thing in the world, although coffee itself can have healthy effects. So, I’ve cut back to about two cups.
My wife is also a coffee drinker, but she loves a very strong cup of coffee. She’ll take a espresso or Turkish coffee, which are brewed a
bit thicker and into smaller cups than American black coffee. All forms of coffee certainly have a unique art and craftsmanship to them, and I never fail to find new ways of appreciating coffee while traveling or with friends.
To all of those who enjoy a cup of joe now and then,

2 Fitness Tips From Tom Hiddleston
Actor Tom Hiddleston electrified the internet this summer with his performance in the new Marvel series “Loki” on Disney+, and there are even rumors he’ll be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig retires. But how does the actor keep up his lean, screen- perfect physique? SuperheroJacked.com recently spilled its best guess at Hiddleston’s workout routine. The suggested regimen leans heavily on weightlifting and jogging; you can check out the full routine by searching the article title, “Tom Hiddleston Workout Routine and Diet Plan: The Physique Behind Thor’s Brother Loki.” To put the plan together, Superhero Jacked’s founder did his research — and so did we. Here are two Hiddleston-approved fitness tips: Tip No. 1: Jog It Off It’s no secret that the Loki actor loves to jog. The paparazzi often catch him at it, and the hobbymakes sense for someonewith his body type. According to Runner’s World, jogging is a great cardio workout for kick-starting and maintaining weight loss. It also boosts your
mood, improves your sleep andmental acuity, and strengthens your immune system. So, it might even help Hiddlestonmake it to set and memorize his lines. Tip No. 2: Boogie on the Dance Floor In addition to jogging, Hiddleston loves to dance. “Anyone who’s known me for any length of time knows that I love dancing,” he told Vulture in 2016. “At a party I’ll be the first person on the dance floor and the last sweaty mess at the end of the night. I don’t even think I can dance particularly well. I just have always had great enthusiasm for it and enjoy it.” (Want to see proof? Check out the video “TomHiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch Dance Off” on YouTube, which has racked up more than 1.2 million views.) Dancing is another great mental and physical workout. It requires balance, strength, and endurance, as well as the ability to memorize steps. If you want a body (and mind) like Loki’s, a good place to start could be in a group dance fitness class!

The Most Common Misconceptions After Being Arrested
DON’T MAKE THESE MISTAKES!
Should You Plead Guilty? I caution my clients that pleading guilty might not be in their best interests, and while I understand that they may regret their choices and may even believe they committed the crime, that is not the end of the story. To begin with, people are presumed innocent. The state must prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt —with legally admissible evidence. The question is if the government can prove it in a courtroom, beyond a reasonable doubt, to a unanimous jury of six people in a misdemeanor or twelve in a felony, with legally admissible evidence. Even if they feel like they are guilty and even if I believe the government can prove it, there will always be some questions about which punishment is correct, whether it should be a lesser punishment, or other mitigating factors that work to clients’ advantage. These complicated territories can be difficult to navigate alone.
Most people who undergo a first-time arrest are scared and nervous. They do not know what can help them or how the arrest will affect their reputation. If you’re experiencing your first arrest, you might think that you will go to jail, that there is no way to get the case dismissed, or — on the opposite end — that there is some magical way to get out of this. Some believe that if they were not read their rights, they will receive a “Get Out of Jail Free” card or an automatic dismissal. That may — or may not — be the case. It is not quite like TV, where a police officer does not read the person their rights and the case is automatically thrown out. If the person has been arrested and their rights are not read to them — but they are interrogated — then their answers might not be used against them since they were not warned of their right to remain silent. It does not mean that the case is automatically thrown out.
However, for them to have a case, the police must have evidence, and that brings us to the next point.

Delicious, Trending Coffee Brands in 2021 3 NewWays to Mix Up Your Coffee Routine
Copper Cow Coffee Fresh Vietnamese pour over coffee can be tough to find. However, look no further than Copper Cow Coffee! Brewing your coffee over your cup is a fantastic way to enjoy your morning coffee quickly. Best of all, they have wonderful, unique blends, such as Lavender Latte. It’s super aromatic, and with its coffee and lavender scents combined, it immediately relaxes your whole body.
Whether you’re a regular coffee drinker or you simply like a cup now and then, you might enjoy experimenting with your regular blend. And with all of the following blends being under $20, you won’t have to spend an exorbitant amount of money to get a brand-new, luxury experience, either!
Amazon Fresh Just Bright Whole Bean Coffee If you’ve been eyeing Amazon Fresh Just Bright coffee but aren’t sure if it’s good, we suggest giving their light roast a try. Not only is light roast coffee full of more antioxidants than medium or dark roasts, but it also has a sweet, toasted flavor that’s a little more enjoyable than the bitterness you’d normally expect. Delish rates it as one of the best light roast coffees out there. Intelligentsia Coffee If you’re looking to buy tried-and-true sustainable and delicious American roasted coffee, experts would probably point you in the direction of Intelligentsia. The brand’s coffee buyers travel year-round to meet and maintain a close, high- quality network of artisan farmers. There’s no middle-man — Intelligentsia Direct Trade partners with over 50 farmers across 14 countries, producing more than 50 single-origin coffees annually.
Bonus: Big Trouble by Counter Culture Okay, what ’s with these “nutty, caramel , and chocolate” notes that people taste in coffee? Do they really exist? When you get a sip of the super nutty Big Trouble coffee, the answer will be an overwhelming yes! It’s limited due to the quality and seasonality of this blend’s coffee beans being challenging to source. We could’ve kept this secret to ourselves, but we couldn’t help but spill the beans with our newsletter readers.
We hope you enjoy learning about these new, trending coffee brands and blends! Enjoy!
The best part? Many reviews say their light roast doesn’t require any cream at all; it’s incredibly smooth.

Corn Maze Safety
THIS FALL 5 Corn Maze S afety Tips
FUN FOR ALL
Wear proper footwear. Ensure that you and your family all have proper footwear, preferably closed-toed shoes, while exploring the maze. You never know what kind of critters or potentially harmful hazards may appear in your path. Eat beforehand and stay hydrated. Be sure to eat before setting out into the maze and don’t bring any glass bottles with you, as it can be dangerous if broken. Furthermore, do not consume alcohol before or while enjoying your time at the corn maze. Be prepared. Accidents can happen, usually at the most unexpected times! It is important to always have a first-aid kit handy. Be sure to call 911 in an emergency and let staff know what is going on.
Fall brings apple cider, pumpkin patches, fun seasonal outfits, and corn mazes. Unless you are visiting a “haunted” corn maze, you and your family probablywon’t be chased by a chainsaw-wielding serial killer while you try to navigate through. However, safety risks are still present. Here are five safety tips to keep the fun coming during your next corn maze experience. Follow the rules. At the entrance to each corn maze, there should be a sign stating the rules for visitors. For the safety of yourself, your children, and others, be sure to read each rule and follow along. Always accompany your kids in the corn maze — it is a maze, after all! Watch for tripping and fire hazards. Keep your eyes peeled for any obstacles on the path, including holes, bumps, ruts, and corn stalks. While navigating a maze, it can be easy to forget to look down while searching for the exit. To prevent fires, you should also avoid smoking and never use matches or lighters.
As long as safety is the top priority this fall, fun will be had by all!
