HOW TO: MAKE AN OUTDOOR SPACE FEEL L I KE A L I V ING ROOM Outdoor spaces are all about entertaining and are an extension of the home. These spaces should be decorated with the same attention to style and detail as the interior of the home. Follow these tips to make an outdoor space feel like a living room. ANCHOR YOUR SPACE An outdoor rug (much like an indoor rug) adds texture and warmth, creates a focal point and organizes your seating arrangement. To create visual interest, rugs may also be layered. A layered look can be achieved by mixing patterns and textures. For example, try a graphic stripe on top of a larger faux natural basket weave. ADD ACCENTS WI TH ST YL E Once the rugs and furniture are in place, it’s time to layer in decorative accents, just as you would in an interior living room. Consider these components when creating an outdoor living room: • Outdoor pillows are a great way to introduce color and pattern. They are also an easy way to change the look of the outdoor space seasonally.
