STYLING THE OUTDOOR SPACE

DECORAT ING T I PS • Saturated colors on outdoor fabrics won’t last long if exposed to the sun for lengthy periods. Recommend neutrals or Sunbrella® fabrics if this is a concern. • Recommend furniture covers (your client should store them close by for when storms come up suddenly.) • If the space is visible from indoors your client should consider coordinating the color palettes and style so that the 2 adjacent spaces flow well. • Outdoor décor should complement your client’s unique natural surroundings. • Accent a table with found items from nature like bunches of herbs, autumn leaves, acorn place-card holders or fresh flowers. • Lemons, limes, oranges and kumquats make a beautiful display in clear glass display hurricanes or a bowl. • For a seaside space, fill bowls with sand to anchor pillar candles and use shells and objects from the sea or that are nautical in nature. • For entertaining — recommend our durable outdoor tabletop assortment as well as linens to complement the color palette of the space. • Suggest a separate set of bar tools outside to avoid multiple trips indoors. They’ll typically only need the basics — bottle openers, napkins and stirrers. • For homes that are in a year round warm weather climate offer to help them change the décor each season to keep the space fresh and relevant. • Even for homes in cool but dry climates the outdoor space can be used by adding warm blankets and changing the décor to match the season. • Topiaries and window boxes are a great way to decorate outdoors. • Evening lighting needs will vary depending on the situation and really sets the mood. Recommend that your customer have lighting suitable for everything from a candlelight dinner to a brightly lit party.
