STYLING THE DINING ROOM

HOW TO: S I Z ING A DINING TABLE The best dining table is one that fits beautifully in its space. The table will be a focal point, so choose a size that makes the most of both function and style.

SMAL L SPACES A small or extendable dining table is ideal for rooms short on space. A table that’s 4’ x 3’ seats up to four guests. A pedestal-base table can accommodate more — just make sure there’s at least 3’ of space from all walls.

L ARGE SPACES A spacious dining area lends itself to scaled up dining furniture with deep-seated chairs. A table that’s 6x4’ can seat up to eight guests; at 8’ long, a table can normally seat 10. There should be a minimum of 3’ from all walls and furniture so that guests can move around comfortably. Think about keeping room for bar carts, sideboards and buffets to make the dining experience more convenient, organized and fulfilling.

Selecting the proper size dining table depends upon how many people will utilize it and if the customer intends to entertain. First, determine how many people will be sitting at the table on a daily basis. If the customer entertains often, suggest an expandable dining table.
