Limoges Road makes CAA’s naughty list
during a phone interview. «It was the most common response.» The next step, Grech said, is to contact local municipalities about the overall results of the CAA survey. Where Limoges Road is concerned, that means the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) as Limoges Road is also County Road 5. UCPR Public Works Director Marc Clermont reported being «well aware» of the past complaints about Limoges Road and said there are plans for repaving of the road but not until The Nation’s storm water sewer and other related improvement work is finished. «The issue is they (The Nation) are waiting to find out if they can get a special provincial

The Village of Limoges has earned the unenviable title of having the worst road in Eastern Ontario. Two years ago, the City of Clarence- Rockland earned the dubious honour of having one of its streets on the Canadian Au- tomobile Association’s (CAA) Worst Roads in Canada list for 2013. This year, Limoges, straddling the border ofThe Nationmunici- pality and Russell Township, caught the eye of the CAA but not for the Canada’s Top Ten Worst Roads list. It did get questionable ho-
nour of making the CAA’s new regional list for having the worst road in Eas- ternOntario in 2014. That was the overall opinion of
subsidy to help,» Cler- mont said. «I’m not going to pave the road and then they have to rip it out for sewer and water work. It’s wise to wait.»

a huge number of drivers who travelled Limoges Road last year when there was major construction going on as part of a local stormwater sewer improvement pro- ject. That resulted in a lot of rough sections of road, including a few sizeable potholes. All those potholes, CAA official Caroline Grech reported, are what earned the ire of drivers and turned the association’s spotlight on Limoges Road. «It’s got quite a number of significant potholes according to voters,» said Grech,
Mayor François St-Amour agreed that the condition of the road was bad during last year’s construction work period. He noted that whether work for a new wastewater treatment design setup will go ahead this year or not on The Nation side of Limoges Road will depend on what the municipa- lity hears from Queen’s Park on a subsidy application. «We still don’t have an answer,» he said. «Until the budget is passed at Queen’s Park, we won’t know.»
Castor Street planning fund Russell Township council approved the creation of a capital budget fund to finish preparing its municipal property on Castor Street for future use. The budget of $253,200 comes from previous sales of land on the site. The consultant firm of Sierra Planning WSP and consultant Annis O’Sul- livan are retained to deal finishing the first-phase planning needs. They include design of a full- service road for the property, general engineering, a storm water management plan, survey plan, first-phase environmental assessment, a topographical map, a temporary access road, a traffic study, and a 227-metre extension of the watermain. Council and administration will determine future planning work for the site once the first-phase is done. – Gregg Chamberlain While it looks in fair condition now, last year the state of Limoges Road during some storm sewer construction was enough tomake many residents grit their teeth as they drove. The village’smain route earned the unenviable title of worst in EasternOntario during the Canadian Automobile Association’s annual past year survey of Canada’s roads.
