Horses and riders take on endurance challenge SPORTS editionap.ca

Sept. 1. The challenge is open to junior and senior riders and their mounts. Canadian entrants can use their placings as part of their ac- creditation applications for nomination to the Canadian Equestrian Endurance Team. National and international entrants may add their results to their qualifications for next year’s World Equestrian Games in France.

The SVAHA event is the sole FEI qualify- ing event in Eastern Canada and one of four for all of Canada. It is sanctioned under the guidelines of Endurance Canada/Equine Canada, the Ontario Competitive Trail Rid- ing Association, and the Arabian Horse As- sociation. Endurance challenge is a non-Olympic equestrian sport which tests both mount and rider’s speed, skill, and stamina. It is the

equine equivalent of a cross-country endur- ance run with rider and horse completing a designated trail route within a 24-hour pe- riod. The Stormont Endurance Challenge will make use of trails in Warwick Forest and other parts of the South Nation watershed along with some connecting country roads and local farms and other properties with permission of the owners.
