God did, though, strik e him down phys ically, and they carried him to th e County Hospital. Regaining conscious ness, he called for, no t Tom Paine or Voltaire or Ingersoll’s books, bu t the Bible, and there he found, the living Word of g reat compassion and won drous love. As a proof of th e gen uineness of his conversion, he came back to us and humbly asked our for giveness, confessing how ignorant and
un taugh t he was. “But God, who is rich in mercy, for His g reat love where w ith He loveth us, even when we were dead in sins hath quickened us together w ith Christ, . . . T hat in the ages to come He m ight show th e exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness to ward us in Christ Jesus.” (Bph. 2:4- 7.) H allelujah, what a Saviour!

JORTY ships have been visited th is month carrying flags from G reat B ritain, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Ger- th e United States and several The ves sels were loaded w ith cargo and men from all over th e world. many, Many men were glad to listen and accept of God’s love while others tu rn ed th e ir backs and said no, some cheerful and some stubborn. A fter some dif ficulties were removed from the mind of a F irs t Officer one day an engineer who had been listening said, “ I know you are right, if I had been a Christian last night while ashore I wouldn’t feel so bum today.” Yes, it pays to be a Christian while here in th is life as well as being ready when death calls us. On one of the B ritish vessels we dealt w ith several men, among them a fire man whose tears washed white streaks down through th e coal dust on his face as th e blood of Jesus made his h eart as white as snow when he accepted of His love. J u st around th e alley on the same ship ano ther told us th a t a m other had South American countries.
“ Give me one of those prayer books,” said a Captain as he saw th e Testa ments in our valise. “Yes, Captain,” spoke one of th e officers, “we haven’t a Bible on the ship and some one m ight die while we are out a t sea.” Quickly th e worker answered, “L ittle good will th e Bible be to th e man who may die, bu t it will be good for you or any other man who will accept it and its au tho r as his Saviour now.” “I guess you are rig h t a t th a t,” said the Captain. Thus th e way opens for th e w orker to press home th e claims of Christ upon the Captain as well as upon the man who shovels the coal from th e bunkers. B rethren, pray for us.
