John Knox, in his H istory of the Martyrs, speaking of the nearness of the Advent, says: “ It is the duty of believers to watch and pray and look for His speedy com ing; its power to console the church is a blessed hope.” This is the promise which He left to His troubled disciples, “I will come again.” (5) THE , PROMISED PARTNER SHIP, “T hat where I am ye may be also” v. 3. There will be no more separation where He is, and when we are like ■Him. We are to be “ as He is.” Is 'He to be th e Glorified One? So are we. Is He to be th e K ing-Priest? We are to be kings and priests. Is He to be th e Exalted Ruler? We shall reign w ith Him. Is He to know no more of sorrow and death? Neither are we. In all th a t He is and does, we are to be associated. He will never be satisfied un til He has us w ith H im self and like Himself. (6 ) THE PRECIOUSNESS O F THIS TRUTH. “ Believe in God; be- lieve also in me.” (v. 1). . • F aith is the one power which can lay hold of God and of Christ. W ith out faith we cannot see God, we cannot realize God, we cannot appropriate God. F aith is the antidote for all trouble. F aith covers th e dread fu tu re w ith a cloud of glory. F aith looks calmly on and sees in every experience which may come God’s sufficient grace; sees th e supply of every need; sees His loving care and fellowship. And where are they now? (5) If Heaven is our home, are all believers foreign mission aries? The second coming of the Lord is a PROMISED reality. I t is more, it is a FACT. He IS coming again. It isn’t some cunningly devised fable, bu t a blessed TRUTH, not a theory. It is not a fad of some fanatical faddist bu t a real fact. The second coming of Christ is not only prom ised by Christ, but predicted by all the Old Testam ent prophets, confirmed by the testimony of th e Angels, proclaimed by all the Apostles, believed by th e early Chris tians, acknowledged in all th e church creeds, sung in all the church hymn books, prayed about in all the church liturgies. Few, comparatively, believe it. Fewer still lay it to heart. Many sneer a t it. Nevertheless it is the im- mutaT)le tru th of God. “ I go to pre p are a place for you, and I P I go and prepare a place for you I WILL COME AGAIN and receive you unto myself.” “ IF I GO.” Are th e re any today, call ing themselves Christian, who deny th e fact of His going away or His as cension? Ju st as surely as He went away He is coming back again. Can we believe Him about the fact of His ascension and doubt H im about the fact of His coming again? There are those who declare th a t He was the g reatest man th a t ever lived and th ere never has been a teacher like Him a n d yet they try to make it appear th a t SUGGESTIVE COMMENT Evangelist Wm.
