A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS

48. 1933 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth (HOF) - SGC VG 3

50. 1933 Goudey #160 Lou Gehrig (HOF) - PSA GD 2

Classic Bambino batting pose from the classic 1933 Goudey baseball card set. This SGC 40 Ruth has seen some handling in its day but nothing too rough. The central image almost pops out from the pastel, almost crayon-like, background. The corners display even wear/rounding and a small bit of foxing or staining shows in the bottom border, with some additional wear along the top edge. The reverse has a spot of staining as well but retains it’s original, bright look with vivid green text shining

Goudey included two cards of Gehrig in their 1933 set, with identical poses derived from the famed Conlon illustration. One was issued with the lower numbers, while this one saw inclusion in the high numbers. As per the PSA pop report, #160 is roughly twice as difficult as the #92 card issued earlier in the production cycle. This example exhibits evenly worn corners consistent with the grade, a little edge wear and a small spot of paper loss evident on the front along with what looks like some

through. 1933 Goudey Ruths are highly prized in the hobby and this example is a great way to obtain a more affordable example of one of the hobby’s most popular cards.

very old gum residue. The reverse is green and reasonably clean with a little bit of that gum residue running up the left side. A freshly-graded example from an original owner collection, certainly handled but also lacking some of the surface wear often seen by Goudey cards that have passed around the hobby over the years. A nice-looking card for the grade.

Lou Gehrig’s muscular frame and “attack” batting pose are the stars of this SGC 30 1933 Goudey, an illustration derived from a classic Conlon photo. The grade is accurate as the card exhibits some foxing and the rounded corners one often associates with this issue. Some faded pencil markings appear at the upper left of the reverse, which is showing a bit more wear then the front. The demand for Gehrig cards continues unabated and shows no sign of slowing down. 49. 1933 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig (HOF) - SGC GOOD 2 MINIMUM BID: $1,000

51. 1933 Goudey Sport Kings #1 Ty Cobb (HOF) - SGC GD 2

Here is a superb SGC 2 of Ty Cobb, the leadoff subject in the fabulous 1933 Goudey Sport Kings set. The obverse is sunny and bright, with a yellow background that explodes off the card. It has not seen too much handling and even with Cobb retired for five years, he still looks like he would rip your leg up sliding into third. The reverse explains the grade, due to the inked initials of “J.D.” and small dot being filled in on the Goudey logo, with just some mild toning evident along a couple of edge

areas. An outstanding example.
