1947 7 GAME SERIES YANKEES WIN, 4-3

T he 1947 season is legendary for Jackie Robinson’s integration of the National League, his endur- ance of widespread societal racism, and his becoming a sensational big-league star. Although Robinson did not play a starring role in his first World Series, he had his moments, starting in Game 1. He walked and stole second base in the first, then walked and forced a balk in the third. As the National League had learned, Jackie Robinson could be dan- gerous in many ways. 112. 1947 World Series Game 1 Yankee Stadium Ticket Stub - PSA EX 5 (1/2, None Higher) - Jackie Robin- son’s WS Debut! Starting Bid: $1,000 The significance of the 1947 season cannot be overstated, as Jackie Robin- son’s debut in the major leagues had an impact on every facet of Ameri- can life. It all crystallized on Septem- ber 30 at Yankee Stadium, however, as Robinson led the Brooklyn Dodg- ers into battle against the Yankees in front of 73,365 fans. In the top of the

first inning with one out, Jackie Robinson would draw a walk and steal second base against Spec Shea, marking the first time a Black player would appear in a World Series. In the third inning Robinson would walk once again, moving to second on a balk by the unnerved Yankee pitcher. Although the Dodgers second baseman would be retired in his next two at bats in the 5-3 Yankees victory, he made his presence known, scoring three runs and stealing two bases in the 7-game series. One of the most important tickets of the entire Brooklyn Dodgers/New York Yankees run, this example is the high- est-graded example assessed by PSA, one of just two graded at this level. Strong eye appeal with light wear at the perfora- tion, a tremendous stub marking one of the key games in the illustrious career of Jackie Robinson.
