Love of the Game Auctions - 10th Anniversary Auction

There was little drama in the first three contests. The first game was at Yankee Stadium, and the home club scored five runs in the fifth and sailed to a 5-3 victory. The next day the Bombers put up 15 hits in an easy 10-3 win. Switching to Ebbets Field, the Brooks scored 6 runs in the second and held on to win 9-8, with each team getting 13 hits. All of this was a prelude to the dramatic fourth game, one of the most written about contests in baseball history. The Yankees scored a run in the first and fourth, and the Dodgers in the fifth, but as the game progressed people became aware that Yankee starter Bill Bevens had not allowed a hit. The Dodger had runners on all day, thanks to 10 walks, but entered the 9th hitless, trailing 2-1. 0 1 2 1 1 0 0 11.1 2.38 3 7 3 11 Spud Chandler 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 2.0 9.00 2 1 2 3 Karl Drews 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 3.0 3.00 2 0 1 1 BoboNewsom 0 1 2 1 1 0 0 2.1 19.29 6 0 5 2 Joe Page 1 1 4 0 0 1 0 13.0 4.15 12 7 6 2 Vic Raschi 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 1.1 6.75 2 1 1 0 Allie Reynolds 1 0 2 2 2 0 0 11.1 4.76 15 6 6 3 Spec Shea 2 0 3 3 3 0 015.12.351010 3 8 Butch Wensloff 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 2.0 0.00 0 0 0 0 Totals 4 3 19 7 3 1 0 61.2 4.09 52 32 28 30 BROOKLYN DODGERS Name W L G GS CG S Sh IP ERA H SO ER BB Rex Barney 0 1 3 1 0 0 0 6.2 2.70 4 3 2 10 Hank Behrman 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 6.1 7.11 9 3 5 5 Ralph Branca 1 1 3 1 0 0 0 8.1 8.64 12 8 8 5 Hugh Casey 2 0 6 0 0 1 0 10.1 0.87 5 3 1 1 Hal Gregg 0 1 3 1 0 0 0 12.2 3.55 9 10 5 8 Joe Hatten 0 0 4 1 0 0 0 9.0 7.00 12 5 7 7 Vic Lombardi 0 1 2 2 0 00 6.212.15145 9 1 Harry Taylor 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 0.0 -.-- 2 0 0 1 Totals 3 4 27 7 0 1 0 60.0 5.55 67 37 37 38 COMPOSITE PITCHING STATISTICS NEW YORK YANKEES Name W L G GS CG S Sh IP ERA H SO ER BB Bill Bevens
