11-7 win. Mickey Mantle’s three-run blast in the third gave New York a 6-1 lead and they cruised from there. The series’ best game was Game 6. The Yankees scored three early runs off Carl Erskine, and still led 3-1 into the ninth inning. Carl Furillo dra- matically tied things up with a two-run homer off Allie Reynolds, who was trying to save the game for Whitey Ford. In the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees put together a walk, a single by Mick- ey Mantle, and then a series-winning single by Billy Martin. This was five consecutive titles for the Yankees, while their valiant opponents went home empty for the seventh time in seven tries.
