1956 A fter the drama of 1955, both teams were back in the Series the very next year. The Dodgers won the first two in Ebbets Field, 6-3 and 13-8, their two-game attack led by Gil Hodges’s five hits and seven RBI.

Reversing last season’s script, the Yan- kees came back and won the middle three games at Yankee Stadium. Games 3 and 4 featured excellent pitching by Whitey Ford (a 5-3 victor) and Tom Sturdivant (6-2). But the fifth game was one for the history books. Journeyman right-hander
