Scotland, a nation of five million people, or eight per cent of the UK population, accounts for one third of the landmass of the United Kingdom. Two thirds of the country’s population lives in the Central Belt, between Glasgow and Edinburgh and much of Scotland is rugged and remote from centres of population. With centres in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Kinross, Paisley and Perth, all the major lowland cities are within an hour of a Pirtek centre and a number of Pirtek centres in Scotland are integrated into multi-unit franchises, meaning that the ability to cover large areas is maximised. The company spreads its service far wider than a one-hour radius, however. Due to the large distances between centres of population and industry, beyond the central belt, long road journeys are inevitable for those who use Pirtek’s roadside service, and therefore the company’s MSSTs. In some cases this even means “residential” jobs, where Pirtek engineers are embedded on a site while they complete a comprehensive job.
