ECA DINNER EVENT IS HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR... Triumphant return to branch dinner

E lectrical Contractors Association (ECA) held its Northern Ireland region ECA dinner on Friday, 4 March at the Culloden Hotel, Holywood. This was the first opportunity in two years for members to take part in the dinner after the cancellation of the event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Branch Chairman, Colin Cherry addressed those in attendance by welcoming everyone to the evening and paid homage to those individuals who have sadly passed away in the last year and who had made a huge contribution during their service to the industry. Paul Braham, founder of Braham Electrical and a great supporter of the ECA and most recently, Derek Thompson,

CEO of ETT (Electrical Training Trust) were remembered during the Chairman’s speech. Chairman, Colin Cherry expressed special thanks to the members and sponsors for attending the event and for maintaining their support throughout the past two years when the dinner had to be postponed on four occasions. Colin spoke of how working conditions changed considerably with the onset of Covid-19 in early 2020 and how a lack of direction from local government compelled the local electrical industry to manage the processes. He also spoke of how members of the ECA have welcomed support from the association since March 2020 with their

regular communication updates and webinars to keep members up to date in challenging times. ECA has since launched a new website and app to enable access to services even when on the move. Sponsors present included: Karen McAvoy, Ireland’s Electrical Magazine, Aaron McKeown, MGA Communication, Mark Wilson, Malone Lighting, Lee McGregor, CEF, Simon McCarthy, Knightsbridge, James Beattie, G4S and Tina Spivack from Edmundson’s. Apologies were sent from ECA President, Dave Lewis as well as CIBSE President, Jonathon Grimshaw and NI Master Plumbers’ Federation President, David Taylor.

“A larger, stronger association can only be of benefit to the whole industry.”
