ETT tribute to Derek Thompson

I n February 2022, ETT lost a friend, colleague and mentor in CEO Derek Thompson. Derek brought many personal qualities (not to mention his vast experience of electrical contracting and business management) to the organisation and we owe him a great deal. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to the electrical industry is to be commended. Derek joined ETT in 2003 and always demonstrated a strong commitment to the sustained success and development of the organisation, working hard on behalf of the industry to promote the interests of electrical contractors. History Since its establishment in 1997, ETT has endeavoured to protect and secure the long-term interests of the industry through an employer-led ethos. The organisation has successfully changed and adapted to external influences and market demands. By listening to employers, being innovative and restructuring, the organisation

has remained relevant and aligned to its core purpose. SparkSafe LtP Following a five-year consultation

period with the electrical contracting industry, ETT

developed the first UK electrical online Licence to Practise system with the local government and community’s approval in 2013. SparkSafe Licence to Practise (LtP) incentivises the recruitment of apprentices and encourages the workforce to remain up to date with national occupational standards to improve productivity, safety, and quality outcomes. Legacy The ETT/SparkSafe team, with the support of the Board of Employers will continue to work hard to build on the legacy that Derek has left, with the aim of improving quality and raising standards within the electrical contracting industry. The organisation remains dedicated to supporting and helping individuals, employers and professionals working within the industry to improve their knowledge, enhance their skills and prove their competence.
