Foodtown - October 2019

As the customer relations manager and scanning coordinator at our Margaretville store, Crystal is the go-to employee for all things client-facing, and she does an excellent job fielding questions, comments, and concerns from our shoppers. When she gets to work every morning, Crystal’s first priority is responding to customers who have left us messages or reviews. She either calls or emails every customer and asks what we can do to improve their experience, whether it’s ordering a new product or setting them up with a Club Card. Once that’s done, Crystal has plenty of other tasks to keep her busy. “I put in Club Cards for new customers so that they can use our Greenpoints system and progress with our rewards program, but mainly, I’m just making sure that everybody is happy, that all of our employees are happy, and that everybody is performing the best that they can,” she says. Crystal has been with us for six years now, and she’s spent all of them at the Margaretville store. Putting in that time has given her a unique perspective on her team and our many regular customers. “I definitely like all the interaction between the customers and employees and seeing how everybody has grown over the time that I've been here,” she says. “I’m here 5–6 days a week, so I’m always running around talking to everybody and definitely have relationships with customers. We’re quite a small town, so everybody is really close here. We’re very community- MEET CRYSTAL COLON! She’s Always Ready to Help

Break out your hosting skills this Halloween and create fun food to please all the ghosts and goblins at your party. We’ve got all the supplies you need to make some of our favorite spooky suggestions. Appetizers Start off with a scream! Deviled egg eyeballs are a great choice: Just top your filling with a slice of green olive for the iris, and drizzle some red Sriracha sauce on the white of the egg to give it a bloodshot effect. You can get creepy and crawly with spider snacks by rolling some mini cheese balls, popping four pretzel sticks into each side for the legs, and slicing some olives for the eyes. Or, create mummy jalapeño poppers by wrapping them in thin strips of puff pastry before baking and complete the look with two peas for the eyes. Entrees Pizza is always a people-pleaser. Coat the base with blood-red sauce, then get spooky with your toppings. You can sprinkle your cheese into the shape of a web and cut little spiders out of black olives and place them strategically. Slice some ham into the shapes of fingers and cut little triangles out of tomatoes or red peppers to place on the ends of the ham fingers. Your guests won’t know what to do with a witch’s hand creeping toward them! The terrifying toppings are endless, and this month, Foodtown has some great coupons to get you started on your very own pizzas. Desserts You won’t get these sweet treats by ringing doorbells. Try dipping strawberries in white chocolate, then place just three chocolate sprinkles to get the eyes and mouth of your howling ghost. You can also take your candied apples a step further by putting holes in the apple and hanging gummy worms out of them. Get creative with cupcake and cookie decorating; with the right frosting and candy garnishes, you can munch on Frankenstein’s monster, vampires, witches, and werewolves. As always, if you’d rather worry about other elements of your party like decorations and entertainment, then let Foodtown take care of your food. If she could recommend one of our programs to customers, Crystal says she’d choose the Greenpoints system.

“You can redeem your points for a variety of things, like Visa gift cards, gas cards, and specific gift cards for stores you like to shop in. The program is really good if you’re looking to give somebody a gift or get something you can’t get here,” she says.

When she’s not at work, you might find Crystal at home, cooking pizza or chicken Parmesan (her specialties) or snacking on Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (her favorite food).
