You have made a good guess, but the greatest difference is, not in thé ages represented. “Is the difference in the distances they have traveled?” There is a great difference in the distances these two have gone, but that is not the most important dif ference. Perhaps if I „place two other things on the table, you will be able to figure out the greatest differences. [Place the cross on the end of the table nearest the b o o t e e , and the world on the end nearest the boot] “The most important difference is in the direction they are going.” You are right, the most important thing in life is the direction in which we are going. The child’s shoe is headed toward the dross of Christ and salvation. The man’s boot is headed toward the world and to a lost eter nity. Much is said In the Bible about walking. In Galatians 5:25 we read, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” The Spirit of God seeks to lead all those who are willing, to the cross of Christ. GOLDEN T E X T ! "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, l bring you good tidings of great Joy, which shall be to all people" (Lk. 2:10). DEVOTIONAL READING: Isa. 55:1-13. Outline and Exposition J oy by the B irth of C hrist ( L k . 2:8-12) » HE shepherds were keeping watch “ by night.” The word suggests the c o n d i t i o n of ened and in despair of finding a way out. A ll philosophies had failed. Then Christ came, and in Him was the Way out of gloom and into glory. Man also was in ignorance, with his question, “What and where is truth?” remain ing unanswered. Christ came, and in Him was Truth of and from God. By the birth of Christ, man’s “night” became luminous with the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Because of this reality the angel could say, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” The tidings were “good” because they told of a Saviour who could deliver from all the ills of man. They were “good” also because they told of the birth of One who would bring God’s message to man, who would stand before God On behalf of man, and who would

white and nearly new, and that the boot is worn and soiled. Place them on the table with the heels together, and the toes pointing - in opposite directions.) LESSON: I have a difficult problem for you this morning—one that will require careful thinking. What IS the greatest difference between the boot and the bootee you see on the table? “One is clean and the other is dirty.” That is true; the boot could repre sent a person who had sinned more than another, but that is not the greatest' difference. “One reminds us of a child and the other of an adult.” Luke 2:8 And there were In the same country shepherds abiding in the f i e l d , keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, io, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great Joy, which shall be to all «people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swad dling Qlothes, lying in a manger. Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of ail things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding ail things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; A Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. ; 1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we nave seen with our eyes, which w e have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus -Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your Joy may be full.
