1. Look Upl “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archahgel, and with the trunyp of God” (1 Thess. 4:16). A shout ! A trumpet note, A glorious Presence in the azuré sky! A gasp, A thrill of joy, And we are with Him in the twink ling of an eye! A glance, An upward look, Caught up to be with Christ for evermore! The dead alive! The living glorified ! Fulfilled are all His promises that came before! His face! His joy supreme ! Our. souls find rapture only at His feet! Blameless ! Without a spot ! ' We enter into heaven’s joy complete! —Anne Catherine White. Shelter for the Family "The Lord will create upon every dwelling place . . . a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night” (Isa. 4:5). Each family may have its cloudy pillar to guide, its own illumination through the dark hours, its own cano py from storm and rain and he a t . Let this be your comfort; though your family be scattered a f a r , all may dwell in the same pavillion, be di rected by the movements of the same pillar of cloud, and be enlightened by the glow of the same fire. In God there is no distance. He suits Himself to our very needs—now a cloud, again a fire; in the storm a covert, from the heat a shadow. He adapts His help to our need.—F. B. Meyer. First Place “That in all things he might have the pre-eminence” (Col. 1:18). Again and again the temptation to wish for what is not given w ill spring upon us, and the staining, softening thoughts of self, and sympathy 'with self, will try to creep in. But if the moment the soul is conscious of that influence it looks to its Lord, there will be peace; there will be victory. Not I, but Christ, will fill the center of the circle. And “He will with Hi* merciful might of gracious presenc* 2. 3.

break down this false image of love in thyself, till thou be some deal re formed to His likeness.” —Amy Carmichael. 4. Sunshine to My Heart “I am come that they might have life” (John 10:10). “There is life for a look at the Cruci fied One; There is life at this moment for thee.” What a tremendous conception it is ! Only God could have thought it, and only God could have wrought it. The Victor became the Victim in order that the victim might become the victor ! The Sinless One took the place of the sinful one in order that the sinful one might become sinless! And so in wonder and amazement we say: “How-Thou canst love me as Thou .dost, 5. Faith with a Push “The Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land” (Josh. 2:24). The promised land was a good land, a land of opportunity; but there were enemies to keep the Lord’s people from enjoying the privileges of the land. Without faith the difficulties could not be overcome and the land possessed. Someone has said that the door of opportunity has a sign on it: “ Push.” There must be a going ahead in faith, believing that strength will be given to overcome all obstacles. The faith that keeps us pressing on will bring us into possession of God’s promises for us.— Gospel Banner. 6. Worthwhile Objects “Labor not for the meat which per- isheth, but for that meat which en- dureth unto everlasting life” (John 6:27). Lift up thine eyes to the riches of heaven, and thou shalt see that all the goods of this life are nothing to be accounted of. They are uncertain, and burdensome because they are never possessed without anxiety and fear. Man’s happiness consisteth not in having abundance of temporal goods . . . All the devout friends of Christ regarded not those things that pleased the flesh, nor those which were in repute in this life, but longed after the everlasting riches with their whole hope and earnest effort. —Thomas a Kempis. And be the God Thou art, Is darkness to my intellect But sunshine to my heart.” —John R. Riebe.
