Impaired boating costs driver’s licence provincial court in L’Orignal on Aug. 3, to face charges under both the Criminal Code and the Canada Shipping Act. The charges resulted froman incident on the evening of July 14, when an OPPmarine patrol stopped Grégoire’s pontoon boat while doing safety inspection checks and boating document reviews along the Ottawa River near Cham- plain Township. The officer suspected, after talking with Grégoire, that the latter might be opera- ting his boat while his blood-alcohol levels exceeded 80 milligrams. Grégoire was then arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with operating a vessel while his blood- alcohol levels exceeded 80 milligrams, and also charged, under the Canada Shipping Act section dealing with small vessels, with operating a non-human-powered pleasure craft without prescribed vessel safety equip- ment on board.

The OPP remind boaters that the same laws and penalties dealing with impaired driving also apply to boating. Drinking on board is only permitted if the boat has its own sleeping, cooking and washroom faci- lities and is also either anchored or docked. Boaters are also reminded that they are responsible for making sure that their vessel meets all safety regulations, including having enough life jackets for everyone on board and that everyone is wearing a lifejacket while the vessel is afloat. can call Const. Theft cases Police are asking for help solving two theft cases in Alfred-Plantagenet Township. In one case, a 2015Mercury 4hp trollingmotor was removed from a boat parked next to a deta- ched garage at a residence on County Road 17. The theft occurred sometime between July 8 and July 11. Const. Zachari Gonsalves is the officer in charge of the case and can be contacted at 613-632-2729. The other case involves a stolen cargo trailer. It was removed sometime overnight between July 12 and 13 from a private pro- perty located along Old Highway 17 in Al- fred-Plantagenet Township. The trailer is a black 2010 Sure-Trac and, at the time, it contained some tools. Total value of the trailer and gear is estimated at $4000. Const. MathieuDesjardins of the Hawkes- bury detachment is the officer in charge of the case.
Shoplifter caught and charged
HawkesburyOPPwere called to the Freshco grocery outlet in Hawkesbury to collect a shoplifter. Norrie Hamade, 23, ofThe NationMunici- pality, was charged, July 13, with theft under a value of $5000. A store cashier caught her trying to leave the premises with a reuseable grocery bag which contained $94 worth of unpaid groceries. Hamade was released on her own reco- gnizance with an order to attend the Aug. 3 provincial court session in L’Orignal. Burglary haul Police are investigating a weekend break- in at a private home in Alfred-Plantagenet Township, whichmay have proved very pro- fitable for the burglar. The OPP state, in an incident brief, that “significant amount of money” was taken from a homemade safe during a daytime burglary, July 16, at a residence on Pela- deau Road. No details were given about the missing contents of the safe resulting from the burglary. The police forensic identification unit is involved in the investigation. The OPP have some advice for Pokemon Go players. Trying to catch elusive Pokemon monster characters is not an acceptable excuse for trespassing.There have been reports of players trespassing on public and private property around the province, including OPP detachments and parking lots. Pokemon Go players are urged to respect private property laws while enjoying their game and also to be sure there are no safety risks where they are going to hunt the anime monsters. Démantèlement d’un réseau de distribution à Alfred Deux personnes ont été arrêtées le 8 juillet à Alfred, lors d’une opération de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario sur la rue Saint-Philippe. Sur les lieux les policiers ont saisi des pilules de méthamphétamine et d’hydromorphone, de la cocaïne, de l’argent comptant et de l’emballage. Salah Siberia, 50 ans, a trois chefs d’accusation de possession de drogue en vue d’en faire le trafic contre lui, en plus d’un chef de trafic de cocaïne. Ce n’est pas la première fois que ce dernier à des problèmes avec la loi. En septembre 2014, il avait été fouillé à un barrage routier à Hawkesbury et était alors en possession de méthamphétamine et d’hydromorphone. Sa récente arrestation est donc un bris de probation et cinq autres chefs d’accusation ont été ajoutés à son dossier pour cette raison, ce qui lui a valu un séjour en prison en attendant son audience sur sa mise en liberté sous caution. Lors de la même opération, Mélanie Brazeau, 37 ans, de Hawkesbury, a également été arrêtée pour trafic de cocaïne.
