50 YEARS WITH THE KING'S BUSINESS EDITOR'S NOTE: Mrs. Betty Bruechert, former Editor of the King's Business, has been re quested to compile a series of informative articles on the history of this 50-year-old publication. This month: "The Editors." P u b l i s h e d January 1, 1910, the first issue of The King’s Busi ness was 5 Yz x 3Vz inches in size; it was composed of eighteen pages; and the subscription price (as of No vember 10) was twenty-five cents per year. The masthead did not list an edi tor until November 1911 when the name of J. H. Sammis appeared. In October 1912 Mr. Sammis, as the first editor-in-chief, was succeeded by R. A. Torrey, who acted in that capacity until December 1918. Fol lowing him were T. C. Horton, 1919- 1926; John M. Mclnnis, 1927-28; William P. White, July 1929-Feb. 1933, and John C. Page, April and May, 1933. No editor was named for the per iod of June 1933 to August 1935 but since Louis T. Talbot, pastor of the Church of the Open Door, was then Acting President of the Bible Insti tute, he wrote the editorials and actually was the Editor during that period. Paul Rood became Editor-in-Chief November 1935, terminating his service October 1938 and followed by Louis T. Talbot Nov. 1938 to Oct. 1939; Roy L. Laurin, Nov. 1939- 40; Louis T. Talbot, April 1940 to March 1953. Samuel H. Sutherland, present president of BIOLA, has been Editor since April 1953. So for its nearly fifty years of existence The King’s Business has had ten editors with one (Dr. Talbot) acting in this ca pacity on three different occasions. Associate Editors included J. H. Sammis, T. C. Horton, J. H. Hunter, 1912; R. A. Torrey, William Evans, W. H. Pike, 1919; Charles E. Hurl- burt, 1927; Roy L. Laurin, 1939, and William W. O it , 1945-53. Managing Editors were A. M. Row, 1915; Keith L. Brooks, 1918-23 and 1927-28; William A. Fisher, 1924; J. E. Jaderquist, 1929-31; Mil dred M. Cook, 1935-1945; Betty Bruechert, 1945-53, and Lloyd Ham- ill, 1953-58. J. Russell A l l d e r , executive vice- president of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, has served since 1940 as busi ness manager of the KING’S BUSI NESS. Sharing responsibility for the pro duction of the magazine at the present time, is an Editorial Board. (N ext Month: The Format.)
