James E. Nielson Excellence Fund
A foundational source of support for SER, this fund is used to aid energy instruction across UW on topics important to Wyoming. The support spans SER's instruction, research, and outreach functions. This fund supports student travel expenses, enabling participation in conferences and field trips that provided valuable learning opportunities in energy-related topics and facilitates networking with industry professionals. They are also used to provide scholarships and textbooks for SER students. It helps retain top-tier talent across UW. Faculty Fellows were supported most recently within the departments of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences specifically Geology and Geophysics and Chemistry. The flexibility of this endowment allows SER to be nimble as we work to support UW faculty, sta , students and the state of Wyoming.
Martin E. Knauss Energy Student Fund This fund has supported travel to the DAPL Institute, and provides an opportunity for students to meet with industry leaders. The Martin E. Knauss Energy Student Fund has empowered students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings—through conference attendance and field visits—deepening their education and preparing them for impactful careers. It opens doors to experiences that shape both their academic and personal growth. Students have experienced the full spectrum of the oil and gas industry in a single overnight visit—beginning with a tour of an active drilling site and concluding with attendance at the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission hearing. 6
