What kind of faith do we have? Do we have the faith that accomplishes things for God, or do we have the faith that goes on with the crowd, that is a barrier in the way of true progress, that may sing the traditional songs, that may utter the formal prayers, that may sit in interesting meet ings, but which knows nothing of the One who has told us that we are to move out and accept His leadership, and worship our God in spirit and in truth? — D onald G rey B arnh o use . "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ’ (1 Cor. 15:57). Victory is never a “once for all and done with it” affair, but He gives us the victory as the need arises. Thus we begin a new walk with Him; He subdues our enemies before us, and we stand aside as He deals with the situation; He puts our enemies under our feet, and we enjoy the spoil. It is Christ Jesus who died to reconcile us to God and who lives in us now to give us daily victory over our foes, both those within and those without.—From Union with Christ by L. L. Legters. NOVEMBER 25 Worthy o f Praise “ Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah; Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; Let us make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For Jehovah is a great God, And a great King above all gods.” — P salm 95:1-3, R. V. Caleb found his satisfaction and suffi ciency in God Himself. He did not seek it in Egypt nor in his fellow companions. Neither was he deterred from it by the carnal life of those with whom he was compelled to associate. Caleb was an other worldly man. He had “ another spirit with him” which made God’s companionship his chief delight.. . . In whom and where do you find your satisfaction and suffi ciency? Have you your Hebron dearer to you than all else besides? Are your af fections set “ on things above, not on things on the earth” ?— R u th P axson . "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). There is no case which the blood of Christ cannot meet; there is no sin which it cannot wash away. There is no multi plicity of sin which it cannot cleanse, no aggravation of guilt which it cannot re move. You may be double-dyed like scar let, you may have lain in the lye of your NOVEMBER 26 Satisfied "When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek” (Psa. 27:8). NOVEMBER 27 Complete Cleansing NOVEMBER 24 Progressive Victory around the oak, will suck away the life of the tree by living upon its sap, and will thus cause the branches to wither,. . . so those who, like Peter in the judgment hall, mix with the world, lose their joy in the Lord. Instead of witnessing for Him, they deny Him, and thus further the enemy’s designs, instead of the purpose of the Lord. World liness is a fog to hide the Presence of the Lord.— Alliance Weekly. "Be clothed with humility: for God re- sisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble | (1 Pet. 5:5). As health expels disease, light swallows up darkness, and life conquers death, the indwelling of Christ through the Spirit is the health and light and life of the soul. But with this, the conviction of helpless ness and danger ever tempers the faith in the momentary and unbroken action of the Holy Spirit into that chastened sense of dependence which makes the highest faith and joy the handmaids of a humility that only lives by the grace of God. — A ndrew M u r ray . NOVEMBER 21 Patient Waiting "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him" (Psa. 37:7). A great deal is said in the Bible about waiting for God. The lesson cannot be too strongly enforced.. We easily grow impa tient of God’s delays. Much of our trou ble in life comes out of our restless, some times reckless, haste. We cannot wait for the fruit to ripen, but insist on plucking it while it is green. We cannot wait for the answers to our prayers, although the things we ask for may require long years in their preparation.—J. R. M iller . Remember this, if God does not always grant what you pray for or desire it is be cause He has something better for you. — R ussell E lliott . "And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they cruci fied him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left” (Lk. 23:33). Christ, who died on the cross, has by His death removed the curse, and the cross be comes the charter of my pardon, and inti mates my acceptance with God and my heirship into the glories of the household of God. As I look at that central cross, I am enthralled in glad bondage to my Re deemer; being freed from the curse of the law, I am inlawed to Christ by His cross. I have become His love slave forever, and what else can I do but utterly abandon myself to Him who in His condescension became my Substitute, my Sin Bearer? — H erbert L ockyer .
