SPECIALISING IN HEALTHCARE, BEATTIE FLANIGAN ALSO COMPLETES PROJECTS ACROSS THE EDUCATION, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL SECTORS IN THE UK AND IRELAND… A portfolio of prestigious projects RF shielding, vibration control and complex building services engineering

Healthcare projects comprise around 75% of building services design consultancy Beattie Flanigan’s workload, with a further 20% in education and the balance in commercial and industrial contracts. While Northern Ireland remains its key market, the firm has expanded its geographic footprint in recent years to deliver more projects in the Republic of Ireland and GB. Ulster Hospital Urgent Care Centre A shell area within a live acute hospital was transformed into a purpose-designed facility, delivered to an accelerated programme without interrupting clinical services. Beattie Flanigan provided building services engineering design, supported by in-house HTM-trained engineers, clerk-of-works services and in-house electrical Authorising Engineer expertise. Collaboration with clinicians, Trust Estates and infection prevention control teams shaped resilient, HTM-compliant electrical, medical gas and ventilation systems. Independent commissioning

was embedded from design through to handover, and energy-efficient, easily maintainable plant reduced whole-life costs.

systems were integrated within an existing constrained footprint while the hospital remained fully operational. Works included enhanced life critical safety systems, including a velum ceiling lighting panel to reduce patient anxiety in the scanner, new complex ventilation systems, chillers and medical gases, all to HTM standards. UHD Steam Decentralisation A complex engineering project involving phased de-steam and decarbonisation, the project disconnected the Main Ward Block from the existing steam energy plant and connected it to a new 6.6MW dual-fuel LTHW energy centre. Housed within a bespoke modular plantroom on a structurally reinforced first-floor roof, the plant was built off site under Beattie Flanigan’s design and supervision, minimising disruption within a congested, live acute hospital. 3D Revit models ensured accessible, maintainable services with provision for future air-source heat pumps.

Orchardville Dementia Garden

A courtyard was transformed into a safe, welcoming garden for those living with dementia and their families to enjoy by day or night. Beattie Flanigan designed the lighting and associated electrical services, creating a calm, evenly-lit environment that supports and stimulates orientation and confidence. A sculptural LED tree above a circular timber bench forms the centrepiece, complemented by up-lit pergola frames, illuminated canopies, festoon lighting and low- level lighting to the summerhouse and raised planters. Warm, low-glare light picks out paths, seating and planting. South Tyrone Hospital MRI Reflecting best practice in innovative healthcare design, clear clinical flows, enhanced privacy and carefully considered lighting and acoustics reduce patient anxiety.
