teaching and research focus on human behaviour in fire situations, evacuation processes, residential fire safety, fire safety education and the psychological impacts of fire incidents. Drawing on both academic research and practical experience, he delivered an insightful and highly-interactive presentation that challenged attendees to think differently about how people react in emergency situations. The event attracted health and safety professionals from a wide range of sectors across Northern Ireland, including the construction sector. Through a series of real- life case studies and scenarios, Dr McConnell illustrated the complex factors that influence decision making and behaviour when fire breaks out, prompting lively

discussion among participants. An extensive question-and-answer session followed, providing attendees with the opportunity to explore challenges and seek advice relating to fire safety issues within their own workplaces. The discussion highlighted the value of sharing experiences and learning from both research and practical application. NISG Group Meetings continue to provide an excellent forum for health and safety practitioners to stay informed on current issues, exchange ideas and build valuable professional networks while exploring solutions to common workplace challenges.
