HOT WATER CYLINDERS
DEVELOPMENT OF GRANT’S NEW HOT WATER CYLINDERS WAS DRIVEN BY THE GROWING ADOPTION OF HEAT PUMP TECHNOLOGY AND THE CHANGING HEATING DEMANDS OF MODERN HOMES… Grant QR Cylinders: Built for Modern Homes
As heat pump technology continues to evolve, so too do the requirements of the wider heating system. The development of Grant’s new Quick Recovery (QR) Cylinder range was driven by the growing adoption of heat pump technology and the changing heating demands of modern homes and housing projects. As properties become more energy efficient, the way hot water is generated and stored needs to be considered as part of overall system design. Grant identified an opportunity to create a cylinder specifically optimised for heat pump systems. Many conventional hot water cylinders were designed for higher-temperature oil or gas boilers. Heat pumps typically operate at lower flow temperatures, which means heat-transfer requirements are very different. Without sufficient heat- transfer capability, recovery times can be slower, and overall system performance can be affected. Rather than adapting a conventional cylinder design, Grant’s QR range was developed specifically around the requirements of low-temperature heat pump systems, with the aim of supporting effective heat transfer and integrated system performance. Featuring high- performance, high surface area heat exchange coils, advanced insulation and optimised internal design, the cylinders support effective heat transfer at lower primary flow temperatures, alongside fast heat up and reliable hot water recovery. For builders, developers and contractors, cylinder selection is an important consideration because the performance of the heating system depends on more than the heat pump alone. Cylinder capacity, heat-transfer capability, controls and wider system design all need to be considered to ensure the different elements of the heating system are correctly sized and specified for the property.

Designed with installation in mind Practical installation requirements were also considered in the development of the range, with different configurations designed to suit varying property layouts and project requirements. The Smart pre-plumbed models incorporate factory-fitted components to simplify installation, helping to reduce time on site and support consistent system set up. The range is available in capacities from 150 to 300L across Standard, Slimline, Smart Pre-Plumbed and Smart Integrated configurations, providing options for different property types, available space, hot water and project requirements. The QR cylinders were also developed in parallel with Grant’s award-winning Aerona R290 heat pump, allowing the Grant R&D team to consider the interaction between the heat pump and cylinder, including heat transfer, recovery and system controls. This whole-system approach extends beyond the cylinder. Grant provides an integrated heating package incorporating
the Aerona R290 heat pump, QR hot water cylinder, Uflex underfloor heating and smart heating controls, with each element correctly sized and specified for the individual property.
Supporting projects from design to commissioning
Grant provides support throughout the heating project through its free Heating Design & Specification Service, which supports builders, developers and other heating professionals with the design and specification of the heating system. Grant also provides ongoing technical assistance and heat pump commissioning.
