Main purpose of the role

This post offers the opportunity for the successful applicant to build upon existing building surveying skills, taking responsibility for the project management of major capital building projects with a value from £500k to £5m; the design, costing, financial control, administration and supervision of minor revenue works and maintenance projects, with individual values up to £1m; survey work and other general building surveying and estate management duties. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to take an active role in strategic planning of workload and project programmes, in conjunction with the Assistant Director, Built Environment. Technical • Provide advice and decisions in all matters relating to the University’s built environment, including health and safety and statutory issues. • Work with stakeholders to define and produce the project brief for both consultancy services and works. Produce PIDs and PEPs and other standard documentation in line with the EDS QMS system. • Act as project manager on complex capital projects, leading multi-disciplinary teams (external consultants and/or in-house staff), liaising with internal and external stakeholders and external contractors. Control project budgets, develop and maintain programmes with responsibility for delivering projects on time and to the required quality. Ensure that ‘scope creep’ is minimised and any changes are controlled. • Chair Project Working Group meetings, prepare agendas, any necessary reports and take minutes as required. • Represent Estate Services on University groups and at other meetings with University staff and students, design teams, contractors, external bodies and the Public as required. Provide reports, agendas and other material for meetings and take minutes as required. • Provide advice/input into building specifications for capital projects, prepare a brief for external consultants, checking specifications prepared and providing specialist advice as necessary.
