Students will gain expertise in 8 competency areas currently relevant to the practice of community health professionals: Assessment of Needs and Capacity Planning Implementation Evaluation and Research Advocacy Communication Leadership and Management Ethics and Professionalism
the standards required for graduates to qualify for the Community Health Education Specialist (CHES®) credential examination. 30 credits total; for Health Science and Wellness majors, the community health minor is 12 elective credits. required 3 credit Experiential Learning Practicum – Population Health places students with South Wood County community partners
UNDERGRADUATE PRACTICUMS • 9 Health Science and Wellness majors placed with Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools (WRPS), FoodWIse, Boys & Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids Area, and Wood County Public Health Department: 150 hours each • 3 Elementary Education Practicum students placed within each of the South Wood County public schools at WRPS, Port Edwards, and Nekoosa: 280 hours each • 12 Education major student teachers placed for the full semester for a total of 18 weeks or approximately 720 hours each • 13 Special Education clinical practicum placements within WRPS and Nekoosa School District
