AICC Announces J. Richard Troll Scholarship Recipients AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, an- nounced the recipients for the 2019-2020 J. Richard Troll Scholarship and the winners of the 2019 Annual Student Packaging Design Competition. This year, the first-place student design winners and all scholarship recipients were offered an all-expense paid trip to the AICC 2019 Annual Meeting taking place September 16-18, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario. All the winners in the student design competition receive a monetary award and plaque. The Troll scholarship recipients receive a plaque and a monetary scholarship is sent to their respective schools for the next calendar year. Design to an Opportunity – Structural Challenge • The First Place winners were Kelsey Gunsky, Nirav Chhajed, and Dane Holst from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo for their entry titled “Lite.Fit.Fun.” • The Second-Place winners were Cynthia Lee, An- drew Monson, Hanna Crowley, and Sydney Meertens (Cont’d on Page 13)

dent Michael D’Angelo giving a report on the State of the Association.A new slate of AICC officers, including new Chairman, Jay Carman, President, Standfast Pack- aging, was approved by acclamation. Workshops covered U.S. and Canadian HR issues, the cost of printing, and employee engagement. Christine V. Walters, JD, MAS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, Sole Proprietor, FiveL and Michelle Henry, Partner, BLG discussed Marijuana in the Workplace and Trends Im- pacting Employee Practices for the United States and Canada, respectively. Gregg Lederman expanded on his keynote presen- tation to give concrete steps to increase employee engagement, using just 10 minutes a week and show- ing the link between employee engagement and a company’s profit. He also gave participants tools to define a company’s brand and how to align the work- force behind it. Scott Ellis, Principal,WorkingWell, LLC, led the True Cost of Print Workshop, which provided a cost-based logic for print and print equipment choices. The ac- tual cost of production, as reported by experienced producers of lithographic, flexographic, and digital print were compared and analyzed in an advocacy free environment.
