New Horizons Band DuPage-Beginner 1 • AGES 50 AND UP New Horizons Band DuPage provides musical instrument instruction and music-making for active adults and seniors, including those with no previous musical experience and those who have been musically inactive. Learn how to read music and play a musical instrument, or jump right in and participate in a concert band (musical instrument experience required). Every person has musical potential that can be developed to a level that will be personally rewarding. Individuals are encouraged to practice on their own outside of class and may be invited to perform in concerts at the end of each season. Each participant must own, purchase, rent or borrow the band instrument that they choose to play. New Horizons Band DuPage has some instruments that can be rented or can suggest locations where instruments can be rented or purchased. Music method books are required for the beginner and intermediate classes. Payment of $10 will be collected at the first class (price subject to change). Participants will be seated on metal picnic tables under the Book Family Pavilion; alternatively, participants may elect to bring their own lightweight folding chairs. Registrants will be called directly if there is a cancellation or need to reschedule due to inclement weather. Registration closes the day before each event; no on-site registration. Regain Your Balance • AGES 50 AND UP Taught by instructor Cecilia Floyd-Carruthers, Regain Your Balance is specifically designed for seniors who are currently mobile and able to support themselves without assistance. As seniors progress and notice a decline in cognitive function, the biggest fear is falling. Consisting of three 15-minute segments of sitting, standing and walking, this class will help you build your confidence and regain or maintain your balance. Fall prevention and how to correctly fall to avoid injuries will be discussed. Please bring water for hydration and wear gym shoes with good support. In order to participate in the Regain Your Balance class, you must be mobile and able to support yourself without assistance. These free classes are designed to help you pass your Illinois driver’s license renewal examination. The classes update you on the current rules of the road and prepare you for the general written and road sign examinations. Although this program is free, registration is required.
