Join a naturalist for a wintry morning hike at Knoch Knolls Park to look for signs of wildlife. Younger children may be carried. Wear sturdy hiking boots or snow boots. Dress for the weather. Price is for up to 4 family members. At least one adult must attend per family. Please register only one person from your family. Each session offers a new theme to explore. Programs are designed for families with preschool through elementary aged children and include hands-on activities, short hikes and a chance to visit the nature center “after hours!” At least one adult must attend with each family. At least one adult must attend with each family. Please only register one member of your family. (ah) CALLING ALL COYOTES: Investigate these interesting canines that live at Knoch Knolls Park. Check out a coyote pelt and skull, go on a hike to listen and call for coyotes and make a fun coyote craft. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Price is per family of up to 4 people. Some kits are designed for families with up to 4 children, other kits are designed for just one child (eg. craft kits). Please see specific kit listing for more details on themes/materials and when they are available. Some kits offer additional craft materials available for an extra fee. An email confirmation will be sent when your kit is ready to pick up. Pick up your kit inside the nature center during open hours. (ah) FOXES ARE COOL!: Meet our two local fox species - the red fox and gray fox! Use our Foxes are Cool Nature Discovery Kit to learn more about these foxes with fun activities, games and a craft. Take home kit includes: Information/Instruction sheet, book list, coloring sheets, supplies for four (4) fox masks, materials/instructions for an indoor hide-and-seek game and an outdoor flashlight game. Items not included: crayons or markers, tape, flashlights. This kit is designed for families with up to 4 children. Extra craft materials available for an extra fee. Pruning Landscape Plants • AGES 18 AND UP Have your trees and shrubs gotten out of control and need pruning? Join Ron Biondo, author and retired landscape designer/horticulturist, to learn how to prune, when to prune, and why to prune. Emphasis on proper techniques for restricting growth and maintaining plant health will be covered. Program is free but registration is required. Discussion will include selecting and locating plants based on principles of art. Bring your personal landscape dilemmas for advice. Program is free but registration is required. (ah) CODE DATE DAY TIME R/N Knoch Knolls Nature Center River Room • 320 Knoch Knolls Rd. 88730 Mar 16 Sa 10:00-11:00 am Free Woodcock Walk • AGES 18 AND UP Join a naturalist to learn about the elusive woodcock, or timberdoodle! This short-legged, plump bird uses its long bill to probe for earthworms and other invertebrates, spending time during the day in woodlands and evenings in open areas. Their unique courtship display includes a nasal beeping call on the ground combined with a spiral aerial display. After a brief presentation, go on a hike to look and listen for “dancing” male woodcocks. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather; program may be held completely outdoors.
