PSM. Sciatica Pain

If you’ve ever experienced back pain, or more importantly, leg pain, numbness, tingling or weakness you might have a deeper medical issue than mechanical low back pain. These symptoms are caused by an irritation of the spinal nerves and are loosely called sciatica. While “sciatica” may sound ominous and serious, it’s entirely treatable and often curable.

If you’ve ever experienced back pain, or more importantly, leg pain, numbness, tingling or weakness you might have a deeper medical issue thanmechanical low back pain. These symptoms are caused by an irritation of the spinal nerves and are loosely called sciatica. While “sciatica” may sound ominous and serious, it’s entirely treatable and often curable. WHAT IS SCIATICA? Sciatica is pain, numbness, tingling or weakness that radiates down the sciatic nerve. This nerve is formed when multiple nerve roots in the lowback joinup tobecome theSciaticnervewhich thenrunsdown to your hips, buttocks, legs and feet. It can be injured or compressed by many injuries or conditions however the underlying cause of most sciatica related pain is inflammation and compression of the nerve. While sciatica pain can be intense, it can be treated. WHAT CAUSES SCIATICA? Inmostcases, sciaticaoccurswhenoneofthe lowbackdisks isbulging orherniated. Itcanalsohappen ifthespinalcanalorthespacebetween the vertebrae narrows and irritates the nerves. Sciatica is also caused when the joints in the low back become jammed or subluxated and the resulting inflammation irritatesthenervescausingyourpain. Another commoncause isspasmofthepiriformismusclewhichthencompresses the Sciatic nerve. As we age, our backs undergo chronic stress and this causes degeneration, arthritis and inflammation in these areas. As the inflammation increases, it reaches a critical point where it may compress these nerves — resulting in pain. STOP SCIATICA IN ITS TRACKS The majority of sciatica cases, in fact, can be resolved without surgery —and in a fewweeks. Even if you’ve suffered with severe sciatica pain, leg weakness, bladder changes or nerve issues, there’s still hope.

SELF-TEST FOR SCIATICA

What it means: If the leg with pain, numbness or tingling does not go up as high as the other leg, you likely have sciatica. Your next step is to see what is causing the pressure on your sciatic nerve. 1. Sitting on a chair, look down. 2. Straighten one leg, with toes in the air. 3. Repeat for the other side. Follow these steps:

the spinal movements, Massage Therapy to relax the muscles and Physiotherapy or Athletic Therapy to help reduce the inflammation and to teach stretching and exercise programs. Your treatment may also include Spinal Decompression, Lasers, ultrasound or even custom foot orthotics if your feet are contributing to your sciatica. If you are suffering with Sciatica or any other condition, call the clinic to book an assessment with one of our team of health professionals.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SCIATICA? Sciatica is normally felt as a pain radiating from the low back to the buttock, before spiraling down the leg sometimes to the foot. If you’re suffering from sciatica, you might feel the discomfort anywhere along the Sciatic nerve’s pathway. The pain itself can be dull, aching, burning or even sharp and stabbing. Some people experiencing sciatica may have leg numbness, tingling or weakness and difficulty walking or even standing up straight. If sciatica isn’t treated, it can hinder mobility and cause chronic ongoing pain. TREATMENT OF SCIATICA Due to the many causes and components involved in Sciatic pain, a multidisciplinary treatment plan is required. After a thorough examination, we will determine the cause of your pain and design a customized treatment plan that may include Chiropractic to correct

NATURAL WAYS TO BEAT SPRING ALLERGIES

symptoms. One study found that people who took biminne five times a day for 12 weeks still felt the benefits a year later! 3.TWEAK YOUR HOME. Simple changes in the home can make a difference. Shut all the windows to keep out pollen. Instead of using a fan that draws in air from the outside, use an air conditioner to cool your home on warmer days. Keep allergens outside by taking off your shoes at the door and asking guests to do the same. Lastly, don’t allow smoking inside the home, as smoking can worsen allergy symptoms. Don’t let allergies keep you from enjoying your spring vacation and missing out on family fun! If you’re looking for ways to eliminate allergy symptoms without using drugs, you have options!

Spring is in the air, but so are heavy amounts of pollen and allergens, clouding your senses and making your day-to-day outings and once- enjoyable spring picnics and cookouts miserable. If you’re tired of allergens getting the best of you and your spring fun, try some of these tips to resolve your allergies naturally without the use of allergy medicine or prescriptions. 1.LIMIT YOUR TIME OUTDOORS. Each spring, trees release billions of tiny pollen grains into the air. When you happen to breathe those granules into your nose and lungs, they can trigger an allergic reaction, ranging anywhere from simple sneezes to wheezing or even lightheadedness. Pollen counts are highest on windy days and in the early morning hours, so limiting your time outside during those hours can spare you much of those symptoms. 2.GET NATURAL RELIEF. Another helpful solution for allergies is using herbal remedies. Extracts and herbal formulas such as butterbur or the chinese biminne is rumored to relieve these
