FIT are proud to design and develop the Tanova range right here in New Zealand. Tanova bin systems offer space-efficient storage and waste solutions for all areas of your home. Bins slide away out of sight, yet are easily accessed when needed. Our bins are hygienic and easy to clean, with many models having a top mounted cover that acts as an odour-minimiser when the unit is closed. We carry extra buckets and lids in stock so, if they get lost (yes! it does happen) or damaged, you are able to purchase replacements. Multiple bin configurations offer excellent solutions for sorting/storing recyclables and organic kitchen waste, and Tanova even offers a Bokashi unit for indoor storage and transformation of food scraps into a garden ‘superfood’. All Tanova waste bin models are designed and assembled in New Zealand, and use New Zealand fabricated and powder coated frames. Models that use 20L and 36L buckets/baskets qualify for the New Zealand Made license. These models are marked with a tick in the New Zealand Made column throughout this book. Tanova Simplex Our top selling range, Tanova Simplex fits snugly into most standard cabinet sizes for good stability. The Simplex system runs smoothly on ball bearing slides and its compact size maximises space efficiency. Its heavy duty bin carriage is manufactured from 1.2mm gauge steel for strength and durability. Drawer Type The drawer type allows access to bins with a single action and is the most popular type of system. The front panel is mounted directly onto a very strong carriage that opens like a drawer.

Handle Type Mounted behind a hinged door, this model requires an extra 10mm in width and top hinge needs to be a minimum of 150mm from top of the cupboard door (unless sufficient clearance is made for the hinge).

Rear Bucket Clearance Most Tanova models provide a minimum of 55mm clearance from front of cabinet to back of rear bucket/basket. Many models provide a greater clearance.

Cabinet widths are external measurements allowing for 16mm board on either side

Silver Lining: Alternatives to Using Plastic Bags to Line Your Kitchen Bin Single use plastic bags have been legislated against and, while changing our habits can be challenging, it’s certainly nice to see fellow shoppers carrying bright and breezy fabric bags or hemp bags, or even old-school woven baskets! Even though plastic bags didn’t even exist before the 1960s, many of us have become quite dependent on using those single use plastic supermarket bags to line their kitchen bins, so . . . what now? If you search ‘alternatives to plastic bags’ in your chosen search engine, you’ll find a myriad of options, but here are just a few thoughts: Try paper bags (preferably with as high a recycle content as possible) Try folding your newspapers to line your bin; online you’ll find instructions for a few ways to do this If you purchase bulk goods like rice, flour or pet food in large bags, use them Purchase bin liners from the supermarket; there are options available that are degradable or compostable, generally made from corn starch Go naked! Do you really need a bin liner? Most pull out kitchen bins have multiple buckets so you can easily separate food scraps from recyclables. You can then take recyclables to your outdoor recyclables bin, put food scraps on your compost heap (or feed the chooks, or give them to a neighbour for their compost). And, by the way, the buckets in Tanova pull out kitchen bins have a very smooth inside surface so they’re easy to wipe out.

Tanova Simplex Plus All Simplex Plus models run on soft close undermount runners. Simplex Plus is comparable to the Simplex system in terms of quality, but is designed for wider cabinets of 400mm and 450mm. Useful Tips & Info

Paper and cardboard: Recycling is better than composting, and composting is better than landfill. Shop-bought bin liners: What do the labels mean? Bio-based, plant-based, corn- starch or PLA: Bags are made from plants, not fossil fuels, but they are still plastic. Certified compostable: Bags will break down in hot composting conditions (this is not the same as breaking down in the environment or in landfills). Certified home compostable: Bags will break down in a home compost bin. No compostable plastic breaks down in the marine environment. Oxo-degradable and oxo- biodegradable: Bags are made from fossil fuels and have an additive that makes them break down quickly, but they break down into microplastic and are generally considered worse than standard plastic bags. No access to composting? Worried about food scraps getting smelly? Keep them in the freezer until rubbish day!
