LOUVRE (NIGEL MASON)

Named the world’s most-visited museum in 2018 (with a rather impressive 10.2 million visitors), the Louvre measures a colossal 72,735m² and boasts 38,000 artistic objects, including the Mona Lisa. Opened in August 1793, it was expanded and temporarily renamed the Musée Napoléon under the French Emperor’s rule and continues to inspire artists all over the world. In fact, Nigel Mason was so keen to visit the legendary art space that he hitchhiked from Leeds to Paris at the age of 20 to see a Picasso exhibition. With no money, he lived on milk and oranges and slept rough at nights – but he says it was all worth it!
