The first kind of change, that which you see coming, requires you to be obser- vant. You can see change coming in many instances, so don’t turn a blind eye, hoping it will go away, because in most cases it won’t. Decide what kind of change you are going to make before it decides for you.

For example, let’s say your company is downsizing. You are getting nervous and should be doing something, but you’re not. You’re paralyzed with the thought of starting anew. You have worked hard and deserve this job, though it looks like you are going to lose it anyway. You can handle this situation two totally different ways. Which way are you more likely to handle it? Which way is more productive and advantageous for a Totally Fulfilled life? 1. You could go to work bitter, scared, stressed, nervous, and insecure every day, wondering where your future lies. As you do this, you will jump fully into the “Why Me?” syn- drome: trying to figure out who is to blame; spending energy just wishing things could go back to the way they were; waiting to be laid off; and getting angrier and more insecure all the time. You’re letting outside influences direct your thoughts, your life, and your future. You are waiting to react to a change . 2. You could take the opposite approach and control the events that affect your life . You could take a moment, and look back at all the good that came out of your current job. Maybe you met new friends, had new experiences, and learned from mistakes you made. You certainly learned what not to do in business. You could be thankful that you had this job up until that point when so many people around the world only wish for a job. You could embrace and look forward to change and the possibilities that change would bring you, imagining what your ideal
