Chapter 6. No More Obstacles

Don’t Fear Failure Let’s start by saying, “Without failure, there is no such thing as success.” Write that down on paper, on your hand, or maybe even on your forehead if you have to.

“Without failure, there is no such thing as success.”

I’m kidding about the forehead. But I am very serious when I say, “Failure is part of success.” Think of it this way: You’re driving down a road for

the first time, come to a fork in the road, and make a left turn. You get terribly lost and realize you should have turned right. Guess what? Every time you come to that same fork in the road, you will never make that left again. You learned a lesson. That’s what life is about—it’s a bunch of left and right turns. If you try something and you fail, you have learned a lesson and will never make that mistake again. People who are afraid to try never get those lessons and never sharpen their skills to make a difference in their life. Failure gives you the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and propel you on the next thing you try. You need to alter your thinking to allow mistakes to be a positive force in your life. To do this you just need to change the associations your mind makes. If you associate failure with hopelessness, disap- pointment, or insecurity, then failure will always hold you back. But if you change that association and connect failure to gaining courage, learning lessons, or creating building blocks to a new life, then failure becomes a virtue, a positive instead of a negative. Now, I am not saying that you should try to fail. I want you to succeed in everything you do. I am also not saying you need to be the happiest person on earth after you fail. That’s unrealistic. But I am saying that if you are ready to make a move towards a …allow mistakes to be a positive force in your life.
