better life, disappointment and failures will happen as you move from where you are to where you want to be. Can you now see how failure could be one of the foundations of your success? That’s a lot different than what you thought of failure just a few minutes ago. Do you see how failure could help you learn which way not to go ? Winston Churchill once said, “The definition of success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” I love that saying; it’s one of my favorites because it reinforces what I’ve come to believe: all the failures that you think are the end of your life are really nothing more than a lesson. I’ve made disas- trous decisions that I thought devastated me, but I looked back later and thanked God I learned the lesson from that poor choice. I wouldn’t be the person I am if that experience didn’t happen to me. Here’s one last, powerful exercise. When your fear pops up, simply ask yourself: “What has fear cost me to this point in life?” Answer honestly. What could you be doing right now if you hadn’t been overtaken by fear of failure in the past? I’d bet you’d probably be further ahead. I know I would be, but we can’t do anything about yesterday, so let’s start doing something today. Giving Up is Not the Definition of Success By the mid 1990’s, I had already accomplished a lot in my life, considering where I came from. I had an auto sales business, and I owned and managed eighteen apartments. I worked every day fixing and selling cars and most nights I renovated apartments and managed the ones I owned. At that time, the Internet was new, and a few associates and I created a company that worked on new ideas for supplying information, services, and products online to create residual income.
