2:45pm to 6:30pm SYCAMORE HIGH SCHOOL
There will be a community-wide blood drive held on May 8th, 2019 in honor and support for 16-year-old Jerika Vargas Garcia. Jerika was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is currently receiving treatment. Although she is battling cancer, she continues to find joy in art and music. She also plays on the soccer team for Sycamore High School. The event will take place at Sycamore High School in Pleasant View, TN from 2:45pm to 6:30pm. SHS has partnered with the American Red Cross to encourage citizens in the area to donate blood for not only Jerika, but also others who desperately need it. Your participation could change, or even save, someone’s life. For more information regarding blood donation, please contact the American Red Cross at (1-800-733-2767) or visit www.redcross.org. Get involved and spread the word! HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) is a student-led organization that offers high school students the chance to learn more about healthcare and provide opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and hands-on skills necessary to help others. HOSA allows students to unite and learn as well as offers opportunities for scholarships and fundraising for schools. Chapters can earn thousands of dollars for their school by competing in events on the local, state, and national level. Some of the things that we do! • blood drives • fundraisers • participate in the Be InThe Zone campaign that stresses the importance of NO TEXTING ANDDRIVING. Who are coalition members? Community coalition members are parents, teachers, law enforcement, businesses, religious leaders, health providers and other community activists who are mobilizing at the local level to make their communities safer, healthier and drug-free. Coalitions are partnerships of the many sectors of a community which gather together collaboratively to solve the community’s problems and guide the community’s future. When they are driven by citizen identified issues, citizens become involved in all steps of the problem solving process. How do coalitions make a difference in communities?? Coalition building is a smart strategy that promotes coordination and collaboration and makes efficient use of limited community resources. By connecting multiple sectors of the community in a comprehensive approach, community coalitions are achieving real outcomes.
